"Deliveryman"


Are you hiding from the neighbors? When the doorbell rings, you don't answer it? When you are at home the blinds are down so know one knows your at home? Yes, it is that time of year again when our good meaning neighbors are trying for find someone left on the planet that will take their tomatoes and zucchini. Even at my pet food store is a cart with vegetables for customers to take. They mean well but if we wanted tomatoes or zucchini we would have planted it too.

If it is a family tradition to plant a garden maybe you all should find the old recipes from your relatives and start using them. Ask and you might receive. I am sure some of the recipes of your youth will be great to pass on to the next generation. This is why you need to create An Heirloom Cookbook of Garden Recipes. While collecting these recipes let them know that their might be a problem giving away the home grown vegetables and they will try to help or even take some off your hands.

I will be attaching web links at the end of this article so you can find more recipes and feel save in your own home. You may even want to visit your next door neighbors with some of these There are really some unique entries. This over grown garden syndrome is not just a Minnesota problem so food writers all over the country are trying to help us out with new and good recipes.

So with the next unwanted delivery of veggies from my neighbors garden I will be using the recipe I found in the August Bon Appetit for tomatoes. It just perked my interest when looking at the older edition of the magazine just sitting in the piles of food magazines in the corner. Here is what I found, I will be making tomato tarte tatin. Tomatoes for dessert now that is adding to our recipe box.

Also this week the canning coupons were in the paper so you can can and save more money. There is help on the way, the first frost.

    What makes this story funnier is that Canada will not allow any of our tomatoes in...not because they have too many which might be true but some fungus in on the tomatoes that might hurt the industry. Just posted on Bon Appetite are more recipes that use tomatoes...try not cooking during this hot spell and just slice some tomatoes with chives and dressing. Doesn't get better than this...or toss in some cooked noodles with cheese and basil.

    When I put the comment on yesterday I missed that they were doing this for individual luggage also. AND it was not only tomatoes but peppers too. The bug is called tomato leafminer. Commercial shipments must be accompanied by a certificate.
