A Recipe for Great Memories
I was recently reading an article about someone growing up with great memories of their father making rice pudding. It brought some great memories of my own eating hot chocolate pudding right out of the pot. It was a special treat growing up where my mother, sister and I would eat the chocolate pudding as it cooled. I loved the skin. My sister did not so when I would skim the skin off she would get the next spoonfuls. I can not remember what my mother ate. It could not have been the spoon since that wooden spoon is what we used. Back then you did not worry about germs so eating off the same spoon was not thought as weird or harmful.
I am not sure how often we did this but it was an evenings in the winter time. I know for sure I could not understand why people would purchase instant pudding. Let me also clarify, I would love to impress you that my mother made her pudding from scratch but that is not the case. Royal pudding, long before other brand s would try to compete were the delicacy of our desire. I would also tell you that my mother, a chocoholic, raised two daughters that too would love good chocolate.
When ever I have a lot of milk ready to hit is expiration date I toy with idea of making pudding or a custard. It is fairly easy to do from scratch and a great way to use two or three cups of milk. What better way to have kids help out making desert. They can eat it hot like we did or they can make it earlier in the day to then have it later cold.
Some day I may share with you how the three of us we ate pomegranates and artichokes together.
