Tips for Cooking

Recently an essay called "At the stove, a dash of science and a pinch of folklore" caught my eye. It started with the author, Kenneth Chang's mother adding a pinch of sugar to vegetables when she stir fried to keep the colors bright. I had never heard that of that tip before. Then I thought about all those thousands of tips that have been passed down in families but never shared beyond the boundaries of that family. I guess I think we need to start a depository of great ideas, thoughts, musings of how things can be done better in the kitchen. Maybe blogs are a start but those ideas need to be written down and passed down for us to share. A good idea can become great when it is used by many people, thus it has been shared and made all new again. Cookbooks and blogs are a great start to great tips.
