Learning How to Cook From Your Mom

Do you ever mindless channel surf? I did that the other day when I stopped on BBC's Gordon Ramsey's The F Word. I had never seen it before and since I get a kick out of Hell's Kitchen, I thought I might stay a bit.

The audience was introduced to his whole family. There were the kids raising Turkeys in the backyard for Christmas dinner. But what impressed me was when we met his Mom. She was cooking and competing with him. They were making a pudding and the judges, from what I could tell, were patrons in his restaurant. Gordon won.

What was clear and repeated by Gordon is that he first experiences in the kitchen were with his mom when he was a kid. Even the recipe that they made had been served while he was growing up. He just updated it for the current tastes.

More importantly, what we saw was a son, who is a well known chef, honoring his mother. You could tell how much he thought of her and how much he cared for his MUM.

So as I step off my soap box, get the kids in the kitchen to help cook. You never know they might even turn out to be a famous chef.
