Food Storage for My Cookbook

Happy New Years...
After all the specials meals during the holidays I am left with lots of left overs as you must be. As I micro-waved my lunch today I am reminded that technology is great but is confusing. I had put my left over chili in a plastic container. I used just pop that into the microwave. Now I need to take out of the container, put it on a plate and cover it with a paper towel. I used to just buy a cling wrap to insure against splatters all over microwave.

Cookbooks have always included cooking tips. Storage would also be a great way to let your readers know how to handle the foods they make everyday. Your family might do canning one way to store foods. Your family might use a cellar for fresh produce. I am reading more and more about how storage cellars or root cellars are making a come back. Whether you are storing potatoes, onions, squash, cabbage or your canned items a cellar is a great way to keep things fresh for the longest of time. This is a great way to buy all that local produce all summer long and keeping it for as long as possible.

Maybe it is as we change the things around us, some of those things of the past make more sense. So as we get more frugal and try to save money for our households in  2009 we might look to our past for some better ways.
