Cookie Cookbook

I spent last weekend at a craft show where the visitors were given free coffee and cookies. The cookies were home made and they were really delicious. The one thing I need to remark on was the taste that was so different from store bought or even bakery made. There is nothing that tastes a good as small batch cookies made fresh and served soon after.

But I think the world has changed where most of you do not have time to bake. This is the one time of year were most of us want to make all those different holiday cookies.  Some of you joined a cookie exchange club to get those great home made cookies but really don’t have the time do make them all yourself. I get it.

A cookie exchange at least gives you one avenue to teach you kids the actual taste of good cookies versus the cookies in the store that are pumped up with all kinds of stabilizers and additives to increase the shelve life of the package.  Have you noticed how quickly the cookies from your exchange disappear?

You might even have your kids help make all the different cookies which is even better and no need for an exchange. Yes, depending on the age of your kids the process might even take a bit longer but you will creating some of the best memories your kids will carry with them into homes of their own someday.

One thought I want to suggest, this year every person in the exchange must give their recipe and a story about the best Christmas gift they ever gave and why. One of the members then can put those recipes and stories together as the holiday exchange recipe book that all the children of the exchangers will receive.

This way when your kids grow up and have time to make their own cookies they can make the recipes from their own youth. They can create their favorites for their own families and friends.
This is a tradition the can be updated every year with new recipes added and new stories that start with a different question every year to make the cookie recipe book fun to read.

I have started collecting cookie recipes to start baking myself. More on that later!
