Thanksgiving An Easy Meal

Thanksgiving is almost here. Except for cooking or a large group of people, I think Thanksgiving this is the easiest meal to make. The menu is done, just how or what version you are going to cook makes the meal interesting to cook. Thanksgiving is really at time to experiment with new recipes or why would ever magazine have a recipe guide for this holiday. This is not the time to use heirloom recipes, we wait one month for Chanukah and Christmas for that.

We know from the very start our menu will be turkey and stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Depending on the size of your family and the size of your oven or ovens lets you orchestrate a meal with the crescendo with a happy family that is too stuffed to move. Does cooking get any better than this? A meal where you over eat and being comatose watching football is considered a compliment.

If this is your first time hosting Thanksgiving, you can have everyone bring a dish and then you are left just cooking the turkey. If you plan to cook the entire meal back timing each of the dishes is key to a great meal. Remember, you need to let the turkey rest for at least 30 minutes so while it is resting you can make your mash potatoes (have potatoes peeled in a pot of water ready to go while turkey is still in oven), gravy, veggies and corn bead.  The cranberries, in our family, come right out of the can and it is the jelled version so the stripes and be recognized on the nice plate. Sweet Potatoes in our family are cooked on the stove in the last hour first boil in water and then place in a skillet with lots of butter and cinnamon and brown sugar. The pie or pies can be made a day a head. This is an organizers dream.

Now we come on the most important dish of the meal…the turkey. Just know that there are help lines open all day long to help you if you really get in trouble. I just like the idea that they are there, not that I would ever call them. This is amazing how many different companies are ready to help you, the only thing they don’t do is actually cook for you!
