Family recipes

My sister sent me this note to remind me to tell you not all family recipes need to be formal.

She said that my father made 4 things for us when I was growing up. He made hamburgers, potato and scrambled eggs, eggs in the middle of bread and milk shakes. Every summer I remember my father making banana milk shakes-  of course there was never any solid recipe for this.

Have your family discuss what they thought the ingredients were. Do your family members still make this dish?  Have your family members added anything to into improve the dish? If there is a family disagreement about what was in it, that is a great story as well. One remembers ice another doesn't, I think that could be possible and still be correct.

When I teach my life story classes I remind everyone that my sister and I had different parents even though our DNA is the same. She remembers my parents as different people than I remember. But I would need to concur that my father made the same things. His kitchen expertise was a little bit in need of help. My father also made a tuna fish salad with no mayo but ketchup and mustard. He hated grilling food which I loved so instead of him manning the grill, it was me. I forgive him all his short comings in the kitchen since he was such a great baker. Yes, the man who really was helpless in the kitchen made is living in a much larger kitchen, a bakery.
