Themes for your cookbook
This past weekend as we were driving to the lake I was reminded that weekend cooking might not be your thing. Many people go out to eat on the weekends so they would not need a weekend cookbook. How about summer foods?
We all eat lighter foods in the summer. We eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Some of us will be buying them in our neighborhoods markets or corner stands. Some of us will be trying to buy locally and some of us might get more organically grown fruits and vegetables. You might have your own favorite summer meals.
If I was going to write my own cookbook I would add my mother's summer fruit soup. I finally found out this year that the Scandinavians fruit soup that I heard so much about living in Minnesota was made with dried fruits and more what I think of a compote. My mother's fruit soup was a liquid cherry, peach or plum soup. It was made with fresh fruit, usually over ripe fruit that my mother was able to purchase for less money at the market and cooked to soften and create a fruit broth. She would add whipped egg whites to decorate it like floating clouds.
It was a fun summer memory. I am not aware of any other people that ate fruit soup! It is definitely only served in the summer. I am sure that you have some foods that were only served growing up in summer which means there could great stories to add to your writing for your cookbook.
