Fine Dining

I was recently read an article that quoted Gordon Ramsey of Hell's Kitchen fame that his kids eat at home and never go out. From this article it said that they ate a wide variety of foods from their home kitchen. It could be that a chef is more willing to have his kids stay at home but it reminded that while I was growing up my parents would take my sister and I out to eat at some of the finest restaurants in Cincinnati. My parents owned a bakery that sold French pastries to many of these very restaurants so they knew the management and learned that the lunch menu had the very same dishes served at night but at reduced cost. When I was young there were at least 4 four star restaurants in Cincinnati. My parents did not have a lot of money so we would go for lunch.  To receive a star the restaurant had to serve French food which was very different then the German foods served in our home. I relate this story since I think this is in part why my sister and I really enjoy a wide variety of foods that we do and we really enjoy food trying different foods even today. We were taught what to look for when ordering and then really taste the flavors of the food we were served. I have read that there are some fine restaurants in New York that are no longer serving chicken nuggets to children and the children are actually enjoying the other foods. Again, I think the more variety of foods serve kids, the more they will like food and maybe come back to the kitchen. So if you serve them at home as Gordon Ramesy does or go out to eat to fine resturants the goal is to expand the palate and get them back to kitchen which means healthier eating for the whole family and that means they need for a family cookbook!
