Heirloom vs new recipes

I can see what Helen's talking about. Why put in a recipe that no one will make? I am guessing that given a chance a new generation might just try it.They might have more time for things they really like to do. Cooking might be just one of those things. We make time for things that are important to us.  As Linda pointed out her son missed the original recipe. I believe you can always give the old recipe and give the instructions for the updated version. Lower fat or less sugar can be replaced with lots of things but nothing will ever replace the original and only sightly alter the taste but that little bit can be enough. I have also suggested if you family is bilingual you may want to have the recipe in both languages. You don't want to loose anything in translation!
It come down to this, you are the editor of your own cookbook, you make the rules. Over time you might want to change the rules and that is okay too
