On-line cookbook tools

Linda makes a great point with her comments in Kids in the Kitchen.

If Better Homes and Gardens (BHG) can pull the plug on their tool to create a cookbook, any company can. Most of you probably don't even know that they no longer offer that service since they rank high on many goggle searches in this area.

I was very upset to find them showing them on a ask.com column recently on my own search. As you know, ask.com is suppose to be a site to find experts on specific subjects. I now doubt their expertise. It was under freebies with a link to BHG but ended up on another Meridith Publication website, Midwest Living, but that page was no longer in use. I then went to BHG site (I would give you the link but what I have no longer works) and finally found where they still had creating cookbook information and looked at the bottom of the page and found many comments of people distressed trying to find their own recipes. As the posting noted then several months later, Midwest Living came to their rescue as a place to find those recipes but not a cookbook format tool.

During this search I did find some very useful create-cookbook-suggestions from BHG. I do not think it is worth a visit since there is constant advertising that you have to bypass to get there. I have found just as informative guide lines at Microsoft or at HP without the ads which makes the visit more friendly and not as frustrating.

I am sure there might be a company that helps people on-line create their cookbooks which may be fine to use but Linda's guidelines or questions should help you navigate this arena before you buy.  Of course, I believe the more you keep on your own computer before you print it the better. And no matter what company you use make sure what ever you are doing is also on your home computer and back that up with a cd.
